English

In the town of Nochistlán, on another day of the same month and year, before me, Bachelor Matheo Gómez, the Reverend Vicar, there appeared Matheo Ruiz de Roca, Spanish resident of this said town, who in his own name stated that he had made an investigation in order to marry Thomasa Parada de Ulloa, legitimate daughter of Ulloa Márquez, and that at present it was found that they were related in the fourth degree of consanguinity, by lawful union, because the said Thomasa Parada was daughter of Nicolás López, granddaughter of Doña Juana de León, daughter of Francisco de León and Juana, granddaughter of Martín Navarro and Doña Petronila de Moctezuma, and thus they come within the fourth degree by direct line. The said Martín Navarro and Doña Petronila de Moctezuma are likewise within the same fourth degree, because the said Pedro de Ulloa was also granddaughter of Doña Juana de León, daughter of Francisco de León and Juana, granddaughter of Martín Navarro and Doña Petronila de Moctezuma, who were the parents of the said María Gabay, Francisca, and the Gabay, from whom later were born children and descendants, as appears in the present case which is brought and declared before the said authorities, and thus it was as a descent from the said persons, as is declared in the present investigation.

This is weaker proof than in many of the other connections, because we don't have a baptismal for Ana Francisca herself. Many skeptics say we don't have much documentation of this connection, but there is at least this–1703 marriage dispensation (written in living memory of Francisca), that clearly states she is the daughter of Petronila and Martin Navarro.

My internal skeptic tells me a document written 50 years after Ana Francisca's death–utilizing the name Montezuma–might have been done for personal gain, but I don't think that would have been done in a consanguinity dispensation, which is what this is. That is to say, because they are related, the couple normally wouldn't be allowed to marry. This document is their petition asking the Church for an exception, explaning the familial relationship. If there was no well established familial connection between the marrying couple, there'd be no reason to do that. And seeing as the church might say no (eg they can't get married), it's a risky thing to fake.

I also found another 1689 marriage dispensation that names Ana Francisca as the sister of Cristobal Navarro (believed to be Petronila and Martin Navarro's son), but I don't think that's any stronger and don't want to add any confusion, so I've left it off.
